Cover Page Draft

Creating my Cover Line On Illustartor

  

Using InDesign I created my Cover Line " THE SOUND OF A KING " This cover line relates to the magazine due to the magazine being called "THE SOUND" and the artist being viewed as a king.

Using the tools on InDesign I was able to give the text a rough effect on the outline , this makes the magazine cover line look more solid and gives it a serious look.

The final effect I gave the cover line was a "Stone" texture to the inside of the text .

The photos taken for this photo shoot will be used for the production of a music magazine , the phots will be used for the Contents Page  , Front Cover and Double Page Spread.

All models shall arrive to the destination , LSC Photography studio E10 6EQ on time.

Audience and Institution

VIBE

Audience - 49% of the audience were of the female gender and the other 51% were males , we are able to identify that there is not a massive difference in the percentages meaning that the magazine VIBE contain content that both grabs the interest of males and females. As the magazine provides entertainment for both genders it successfully creates a diverse demographic , unlike some other magazine VIBE as both genders as there audience increasing their population.

Age -  The most popular age range is 21+ the median age is 34 years old these tells us that the youngest target audience is 18 , meaning the content in VIBE is mature and is to only be viewed by young people.

Ethnicity -  The most popular ethnicity in the target audience is African American , with the percentage of 64, this portrays the magazine as stereotypical majority of the artist in the magazine are of the same ethnic background this could be due to the audience and the artist in the magazine being able to relate . The least popular ethnic group that purchase the magazine are of an Asian background this be to not having a many artist of the ethnic group included in the magazine .

XXL

Audience - 78 % of the audience were of the male gender and the other 22% were females, we are able to identify that there is a quite big difference in the percentages meaning that the magazine XXL contain content that mostly grabs the interest of males however it does have a small percentage of females meaning that in some parts of the magazine females may have an interest. This magazine does not successfully create a diverse demographic.

Age - The most popular age range is 21+ the median age is 27 years old this tells us that the youngest target audience is 18 , meaning the content in XXL is for young adults and should not really be viewed by young people but is not as strict as VIBE as it is aimed toward young adults not mature .

Ethnicity -  The most popular ethnicity in the target audience is African American with an percentage of 67 . Majority of the artist in the magazine are of the same ethnic group this may be the reason for the target audience having an interest in the magazine . The ethnic group with the smallest amount as the target audience is Asian with 1%.

Case Study Double Page Spread

 IMAGE

In this image we can see a extreme long shot as it includes the artist Bruno Mars entire body as well as the background. This artist is wearing a hat , sunglasses and a thin gold chain with a pendent , a prop of a stereo suitcase can be seen within the image . Bruno Mars has a slight dull background however the lighting on his upper body is of a light contrast giving the audience a good view of the artist appearance. The artist is wearing a sophisticated yet casual uniform.

CONVENTIONS OF PAGE LAYOUT

A whole entire page on the left hand side has been dedicated to the artist showing his importance within the magazine , The is also a lot of text on the right hand side that is related to the artist . Taking up to pages in the magazine presents to us that this artist is very respected in the world of music. The text uses a variety of different fonts and colours , the two main colours are black  and silver , the font used for the word " MARS " is different to the rest this is to grab the audience attention and inform them who these two pages are about .  The is a obvious relationship between the text and the image as the text gives its audience some information on the artist .

LANGUAGE 

The  text on the right hand page is there to educate its audience on this amazing artist , the structure of the text is a commonly used structure within magazines called " columns ".

GENRE

Overall the artist does not conform to the subculture Hip Hop however he does conform to the modern view of Hip Hop , the culture is constantly evolving. The outfit and appearance of the artist  connotate that he is part of the modern Hip Hop as he still looks very cool but does not conform to the stereotype of showing off and splashing cash .

IMAGE

This camera shot is a long shot as below the artist shoulders are visible. The artist with in the image can be seen wearing a number of gold and silver chains. On both wrist of the artist you can see bracelets covered in diamonds like his pinky ring. The lighting within the image covers his whole body allowing the audience to see his tattoos.

CONVENTIONS OF PAGE LAYOUT

 The main Title " CONTENTS " is laid out in a list format just like the " features" list on the left hand side of the page. Once again the font is solid and bold presenting the magazine as stern and serious. The alignment of the text is like a list making it easy to read for the audience. The two main colours on the contents page is Red and White they work together as it also the image of the artist to stand out . The image partly has an relationship with the font in the heading as the artist presents them self as strong and solid like the bold font.

LANGUAGE

The structure is not similar to the cover page , it has a lot more space and the text is aligned to make it easy for the audience to understand.

GENRE

   The artist  can be seen wearing a number of chains worth a lot of money this tells the target audience that he enjoys splashing his cash and living live to the fullest. The connotation from this artist is that he conforms to the stereotypical view of Hip Hop artist being involved in gang crime , exploiting women etc.

This shot type is a close up which shows the artist facial expressions . We are able to see that in this image he is wearing a silver chain, a watch , a hat and a ring. The lighting focuses on the center of his face however is the rest has an dark shade.

CONVENTIONS OF PAGE LAYOUT

The Master Head is a bright vibrant red which could be used to present the rage within the artist as he presents anger facial expressions. The bold solid font gives the magazine a stern sophisticated appearance helping portray their artist as serious.The cover line immediately grabs the audience attention as it mentions a well known artist being bad. The magazine has two colours the primary colour being Red and the Secondary white this allows key words and sentence to stand out. The text colour has an obvious relationship with the image the artist T.I looks very angry the colour red can be associated with this emotion.

LANGUAGE

Well known artist names are scattered over the page such as Waka Flocka and Jay-z this text helps grab audience attention, however the sentence " Keri Hilson has been a very bad girl " This would get the audience attention as it begins to make them question what did she do ?

GENRE

The appearance of the artist correctly conforms to the stereotypical view of Hip Hop artist. The serious facial expression presents his attitude , T.I's silver chain watch and ring portray him as a successful Hip Hop artist that enjoys spending money and showing off. The connotation of the clothing and props are that he likes living in the fast lane 

 

 

News Stand Task

                                 NEWS STAND TASK

This image was taken from the magazine section in a local corner shop. Looking at this image the magazine titles i am able to identify are , XXL,HI-FI CHART,MOJO,DJ and Wire. All these magazines have been displayed towards the top of the shelf which could be due to the magazines having a target audience of adults keeping it out of reach from children. Analyzing the magazines on the shelf within the image i was able to identify that the front covers of majority were very bright and eye catching however some such as MOJO were dull however had a vibrant white text making the magazine still stand out. The most commonly used font was bold i believe the reason for this is due the fact it stands out and is portrayed as sophisticated. The images on the music magazines all have some type of model or well known artist grabbing its audience attention.

There are many magazine distribution methods such as using social networking sites like twitter, Facebook etc these sites  will help the magazine grab a larger amount of audience. Magazines such as HELLO have their audience subscribe entitling them in to being sent the online version of their magazine.

Masterhead

I started with a plain blue font reading " The Sound"

I then added the secondary colour grey.

To amplify the blue colour I gave the text a grey background.

This is my final Master Header.

Magazine Proposal

ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

Within this lesson we play about with Adobe Illustrator give the text " ETHAN" a brick texture was achieved by gathering an image off google images copying and pasting it on to the software and using tools such as , "Remake" to give the text that rough effect.

After that we simply added some shapes such as the stars and used the filling tool to give the shape that vibrant purple colout. I used two star shapes with a different stroke volume there for one of the starts outline it much thicker than the others.
